Our first week settling into Mondrian Class

We have had a fabulous first morning in Reception (Mondrian class). The children have had lots of fun exploring all the new learning areas together. From sharing stories to role playing in our home corner and building models, we have been busy! Outside, the children have been painting with water, building towers and cooking in the kitchen! Our sand and water areas have been a big hit too.

The Rest of this Week

Over the course of the week we will be playing games to get to know each other, singing songs and listening to lots of stories together. We will also be sharing our ‘All About Me Books’ and talking about our summer. The children will practice writing letters, their names and other familiar words. In maths we will be counting and recognising numbers.

The Next Few Weeks

Over the next few weeks your child will start to bring home a reading/picture book to share with you. In the meantime, you are welcome to take a book home from our reading area (please sign out). We will also be starting our Phase Two Phonics and will send home short home activities to support this in due course.

Our theme this half term is 'All About Me.' For our learning wall it would be great if you could send in or alternatively upload a photo on Tapestry of your child enjoying an activity at home/on holiday and a second family photograph. Thank you in advance, we look forward to sharing them.

Keeping Active /PE Sessions

We are going to be very active in Mondrian class. As well as using the games and equipment in the quad and Foundation garden, we will be dancing to songs played on the Smart board, running around the field and exploring the woods (in the school grounds). Over the next few weeks the children will start to have short PE sessions in the hall (or oustide, weather permitting) on a Monday and Thursday afternoon. We will build up to changing for PE as your child is ready.
