Imagination Library Stay and Play

Imagination Library Stay and Play session at Westwoodside Foundation Stage

What a fantastic stay and play session the children in Foundation Stage at Westwoodside Primary Academy had when they shared two of the Imagination library books. Parents, carers and younger siblings were invited to come into class to share fun filled activities around the two stories 'Give the Dog a Bone' (Funnybones) and 'Chocolate Cake' (by Michael Rosen), which were the books children aged 3 and 4 received in February as part of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library initiative.

Nursery children had so much fun enjoying activities around the story ‘Give the Dog a Bone.' There were play dough skeletons to create, skeleton moveable dogs to make, colouring sheets, ordering the skeletons by size and making cornflour skeleton patterns in the in the messy tray.  We even had a visit from Mr Bones our very own school skeleton ??!!

Meanwhile in Reception class the children shared the book 'Chocolate Cake!' Pupils enjoyed acting out the story as a class before going to lots of different activities with their family. From 'making' chocolate crispy buns and ordering instructions, to decorating play dough cup cakes, we were really busy!

The children wrote their own chocolate cake recipes and decorated a birthday cake, choosing some very imaginative flavours like strawberry worm cake! There were lots of super cupcakes decorated with paint pens as well as cakes being created using the Doodle Buddy APP on the I-Pads. Reception class finished their stay and play session by eating a yummy chocolate bun and the grown ups got a slice of chocolate cake...Yummy!

Our next Imagination Library Stay and Play session is on Thursday 5th March, we are looking forward to seeing lots of parents, carers and siblings there to share our next Imagination library books.
